The crew will visit various sites and attractions for the production of promotional videos to be used by Discover Dominica Authority in Guadeloupe and Martinique. The crew will be in Dominica from May 23 – 28, 2012. Interviews will be conducted with key tourism stakeholders, and various hotels will be featured in the promotional videos. Discover Dominica Authority will be hosting French journalist Johann Chabert from May 25 – 31, 2012. Mr. Chabert works with the Petit Fute guidebook – one of the leading French guidebooks. The purpose of Mr. Chabert’s visit is to update the information on Dominica in the Petit Fute guidebook. Petit Fute has been in existence for 30 years, and has published 151 guides in France and more than 200 titles worldwide.** Dominica to participate in Emancipation day celebration in Bouillante Guadeloupe**Discover Dominica Authority will form part of Dominica’s Celebration in the Emancipation Day celebrations in the city of Bouillante, Guadeloupe. The initiative is being spearheaded by the Roseau City Council as the city of Bouillante is twinned with Roseau. Ms. Daphne Vidal, Marketing Executive responsible for the French West Indies market will represent the Authority at this event. Ms. Vidal is expected to hold discussions with tourism officials in Bouillante on promoting Dominica on upcoming events for the summer and the WCMF, she will also participate in the Emancipation Day activities which take place from May 25 – 27, 2012. Other Dominica delegations include Mr. Raymond Lawrence Chief Cultural Officer and Waitukubuli Dance theatre, Mr. Cecil Joseph the major of the city of Roseau, representative from the Kalinago Barana Aute. **Discover Dominica Authority Beautification project in Wotten Waven**As part of the ongoing activities for Tourism Awareness Month 2012, the Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Wotten Waven Development Committee undertook a Cleanup & Beautification Project at the Wotten Waven Vending Area. The project took place on Wednesday May 23rd and involved the painting of the sixteen (16) vending stalls. The vendors themselves were involved in the landscaping and beautification of the areas by planting flowers and brush cutting. The Wotten Waven Vending Area serves as the gateway to the Wotten Waven Sulphur Springs which is frequently visited by cruise visitors. With this in mind, the DDA is hopeful that this cleanup and beautification project will enhance the visitors’ experience. ** Discover Dominica Authority hosted German journalists**The Discover Dominica Authority hosted 2 German journalists last week from May 7 -12, 2012.Ms Kerstin Strecker’s article will feature in the DIE WELT, the biggest German newspaper. The WELT group is built of: Die Welt, Die Welt kompakt, Welt am Sonntag and Welt am Sonntag kompakt and Berliner Morgenpost. The daily circulation is about 1 Million. The circulation for Die Welt is 360,000 daily Kerstin’s article will focus on Dominica as the location for the Pirates of the Caribbean. The island is still well known within the German market for the film Pirates of the Caribbean. During her stay on island, Kerstin visited the Indian River (Swamp Scene), Vieille Case (Old Church Scene), Hampstead Bay (Waterwheel Fight Scene), Titou Gorge (Cage of Bones Drop), and Soufriere/ScottsHead. Additional coverage will be on the Waitukubuli National Trail and the Kalinago Territory. This is a great opportunity for the destination to speak to a different audience about the possibilities to vacation.Mr. Martin Cyris, German freelance journalist was one of the CTO Media Award winners at the ITB Trade Show in Berlin in 2011. Martin won this award for his article on Dominica after a visit in 2010. Martin experienced the home-stay in the Kalinago territory and the practices and customs of the Kalinago people through his tour at the Touna Village and the Kalinago Barana Aute. The article will be centered around the Kalinagos and the Waitukubuli National Trail. Martin Cyris will submit his article to Spiegel Online magazine and Sonntag Aktuell.**Discover Dominica Authority and Rotary Club 3R’s Campaign**The Discover Dominica Authority and the Rotary Club climaxed the 3Rs campaign week with the “No Plastic Bag Shopping Day” on Saturday May 19, 2012. Staff of the DDA and President of the Rotary Club visited the participating supermarkets IGA Supercentre, Save-a-Lot, HH Wilson and Brizee’s Mart where shopping bags sponsored by the Rotary Club and the DDA were handed to shoppers. Persons were informed of the campaign and opted to use the bags to carry their groceries from the supermarket rather than the plastic bags. Happy customers left the supermarkets and were reminded to return with the bags the next time that they go shopping. This is the first step of this kind by the DDA and there are plans to continue this campaign as constant reminders and activities will allow for easier transition by the public to accept the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle initiative.
